Once 1750 began, Britain was on the verge of having an Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution shifted Britain from an agricultural society to an industrial society. Many other countries tried to follow Britain and have their own Industrial Revolution, but some were not as successful. Even though the peasants had a rough life during the Industrial Revolution, it did benefit the middle and upper classes. The Industrial Revolution had an everlasting effect on European society because some of the advancements that were made are still used today. During the Indu... ...onized the manufacturing of cotton and opened up new industries. Arthur Young who lived during the Industrial Revolution had a very powerful quote about Watt. He said, â€Å" In what path of life can a man be found that will not animate his pursuit from seeing the steam-engine of Watt?" James Watt changed the course of the Industrial Revolution with his invention of the Steam Engine. The upper class gained much revenue from the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution in Great Britain truly effected Europe in different ways. The peasants worked long hours and lived in poor conditions. The middle class lived modest lives and sometimes were promoted to the upper class. The upper class greatly benefited with the new advancements in technology. The Industrial Revolution helped make Europe a more advanced place, even though it did have some flaws.

French Revolution Human Nature

What is human nature? Are humans self-interested and savage or are we socially conscious and kind? The people of the French Revolution give us an answer to these questions. The French Revolution was a time of rebellion and revolution and provided an immense change to the country of France. The revolt was started by drought, rising prices, and increasing frustration with the government by the citizens of France. The rebelliousness followed the previous age of Enlightenment. Enlightenment philosophers such as John Locke and Thomas Hobbes searched and discovered new ideas about the nature of people and the role of government. Locke believed that every man was born with natural rights and will behave well as long as they have these. Hobbes on the contrary believed that we are all savage creatures who use violence to get our own way. Through events such as The Declaration of the Rights of Man and The Tennis Court Oath, John Locke’s understanding of human nature can be judged as more accurate than that of Thomas Hobbes. The actions that the French people took during the Tennis Court Oath mirror Locke’s beliefs about humanity. In the Tennis Court Oath, the Third Estate challenged the awful monarchy of King Louis XVI by a pledge that they would not leave the tennis courts of Versailles until a new constitution that would meet the peoples needs was written. The Oath states, â€Å"that all members of this assembly immediately take a solemn oath never to separate, and to reassemble wherever circumstances require, until the constitution of the realm is established and fixed upon solid foundations† (Tennis Court Oath). This event is completely related to Locke’s beliefs that every man should have the right to revolt to acquire natural rights and freedoms. In his Second Treatise on Government, John Locke wrote, â€Å"upon the forfeiture of their rulers†¦the people have a right to act as supreme, and continue the legislative in themselves†¦as they think good† (Locke). Locke supported and encouraged people to understand that if a government was not treating them fairly or reasonably then the people have the right to form a new government that they like. The measures taken by the Third Estate supported the beliefs of Locke by taking over to get their natural rights. Locke was correct by predicting that people would do what they had to get their natural rights. Locke’s beliefs that people only want their natural rights are supported in The Declaration of Rights of Man. The National assembly finalized the Declaration on August 26, 1789. The Declaration’s basis comes from Locke’s idea of individualism. In John Locke’s Second Treatise on Government, he states, â€Å"Men being by nature all free, equal, and independent, no one can be put out of this condition and subjected to the power of another without his own consent†¦ these laws ought to be designed for no other reason than for the good of the people† (Locke). John Locke believed that all people are born worthy and deserved natural rights. In the Declaration of Rights of Man, the initial article says, â€Å"Men are born and remain free and equal in rights. Social distinctions may be founded only upon the general good† (Declaration of the rights of Man). The two documents are extremely similar. The intention of the Declaration of the Rights of Man was to make everybody happy with freedom and equality. Locke believed that all men are born free and equal, and the National Assembly therefore included that thought it into the Declaration of the Rights of Man. It is obvious from the text and spirit of the Declaration of the Rights of Man, that John Locke has the best understanding of human nature. The French Revolution was a time of rebellion and revolution that brought immense change to the country of France. When looking at the Tennis Court Oath and The Declaration of the Rights of Man, John Locke’s thoughts and ideas are obvious. He believed that people should be free and shouldn’t tolerate anything less. Locke was correct about people wanting their freedoms, as this was both the action and intent of the French, we can see that his beliefs of human nature were correct. Government should be for the people and should never be unjust; but if a government is unfair to the people than Thomas Hobbes is correct that people reserve the right to revolt. Has technology made children less creative? Essay

Society has been changing considerably since the advent of advanced development of technology that never grows as strong as it does nowadays. Thanks to a huge amount of knowledge, people invent lots of modern technology that come in handy in life. However, technology makes life faster and easier rather better, which is the most indispensable factor in development. Consequently, technology makes children less creative than they used to be in the past. Technology has brought several benefits for human beings in general and children in particular. For instance, the invention of computer and internet has breathed a new life into people’s lives and prospects. Computer helps to progress data much faster and more effectively. Since then, children can learn more interesting things they are not taught at school through some online courses such as academicaerth.org or ted.com. Generally speaking, internet has offered a good opportunity for everyone to study and be well-informed. However, what wonders me is how the seemingly perfect technology industry has a by-product. Since technology is the good result of other’s discoveries, only using their results without racking one’s brains derives one from creativity. Moreover, the children age is the ultimately vital growing phase for a person, for it is the time when one’s brain perceives new concepts from the world outside and create one’s bonding to life. It is the time when one’s creativity should be well-nurtured and enhanced This can be proven by a typical example of a survey conducted by a group of students from Stanford university in 2008. They did asked for nearly one thousand children whose age varies from eight to eighteen questions about their frequency of applying technology to daily life. Then, they tested them a quiz test about creation. According to the survey, the result indicates that those who use the technology usually are not able to answer the question ‘twenty functions of a pencil’ ; whereas others quickly respond to it with several answers such as tying one’s hair, killing, scratching when one is itchy. In addition, the availability of technology makes one too dependent on it. It is explained that the availability makes one become lazy and not actively think, provoke, learn so that they cannot explore themselves.

Their importance of folkways, mores and laws within American society is that, in combination, they help maintain a civil society. Folkways are rules or standards that cover ways of thinking, feeling, and behavior but lack moral overtones. Folkways are socially accepted however not morally significant. They are norms for everyday behavior that people follow for the sake of tradition.But if the folkway is broken there is no moral or legal consequence. Folkways in the United States consist of supporting school activities, speaking to other students in the hall, and if male, removing hats in church. In society today we find people who always wear shorts with a suit or who talk loudly odd but society doesn’t consider them immoral. However if someone has obnoxious behavior at a party after excessive drinking can br ing in strong negative reactions from others. Mores are strict norms that control moral and ethical behavior. Mores deal with morality which is the right and wrong.Mores are norms of great moral significance. Conformity to mores conveys strong social approval whereas violation conveys strong disapproval. Following folkways is generally a matter of personal choice; though conformity to mores is a social requirement. An example of a more would be if someone attends church in the nude, s/he would offend most people of that culture and be morally shunned. Laws are norms that are formally defined and enforced by officials. Folkways and mores emerge together slowly and unconsciously created whereas laws were created and enforced.Mores are an important source for laws, for instant at one point the norm against murder hadn’t been written down. Then society advanced and the norm against murder became formally defined and enforced. Folkways can lead into and become mores or laws. An ex ample of a law is smoking. Up until the 1970’s smoking when mounting health convinced many people that smoking should be limited or banned in public places. As society developed, many states picked up the law against smoking in airports, government buildings, restaurants, and other open general public places. . Which theory of deviance best explains why people do deviant acts? Why? Which theory does not explain why people do deviant acts? Why? I think the control theory best explains why people do deviant acts because they conform to social norms depends on the presence of strong bonds between individuals and society. Social bonds control the behavior of people and thus preventing deviant acts. Most people do not conform since they do not want to â€Å"lose face† with family, friends, or classmates. Control theory is broken into 4 parts first and foremost attachment.This is when an individual has strong attachment to groups or other individuals. Next is commitment whic h is great commitment to goal the more likely a person would be to conform. The commitment is greater than the commitment of people who do not believe they can compete within the system. Next in the four is involvement which is participation in approved social activities increases the probability of conformity. Besides positively focusing an individual’s time and energy and the participation p connects contact with valuable opinions.Last is belief in norms and values of society promotes conformity. This belief appropriateness for the rules of social life strengthens peoples resolve no to deviate from those norms. I think the strain theory does not explain why people do deviant acts because it is merely a hypothesis of Durkheim’s concept of anomie, whereas control is the social bonds controlling the behavior of people. There are four parts to the strain theory, first is innovation which an individual accepts the goal of success but uses illegal means to achieve it this is the most obvious type of deviant response.An example of innovation is robbery, drug dealing and other criminal acts. Next is ritualism where the individual rejects the goal but continues to use the legitimate means. This is where people go through the motions without really believing the process. This could be a teacher going through daily lessons however not caring about the way the students turn out. Retreatism is a deviant response in which both the legitimate means and the approved goals are rejected.Alcoholics and drug addicts are retreatists, thus meaning they are not successful nor seek to be successful. Rebellion is people who both reject success and the approved means for achieving it. However at the same time they additionally add a new set of goals and means. Some of the militia group members demonstrate this response. However they live alone to pursue the goal of changing society by doing deviant things, such as creating their own currency, deliberately violating gun laws, and threatening violent behavior against law enforcement. . America’s prisons are at a crisis. Explain how bad the prison problem has become. What are some alternatives to prison? How would you solve the prison crisis? The problem with the prisons is that they have become increasingly over populated. Some alternatives to prison are a combination of prison and probation which a mixed or split sentence known as shock probation which is designed to shock offenders into recognizing the realities of prison life. Prisoner’s serve part of their sentence in an institution and rest on probation.Another alternative is a community-based program. These programs are designed to reintroduce criminals into society. At this time the prisoners will have the opportunity to become part of society however under professional guidance and supervision. The next alternative is diversion strategy which is aimed at preventing, or greatly reducing the offender’s involvement in the c riminal justice system. This alternative involves a referral to a community-based treatment program rather than a prison or a probationary program.If I could solve the prison crisis personally I would just build more prisons out in the middle of nowhere so I can keep everyone safe and protected. I feel like if an individual is in prison for something they have done then they deserve to be there away from society. Personally I don’t feel like going from prison to prohibition really does much because who’s to say they will not commit crime again? Maybe this time even worse than the last because the individual (criminal) could want revenge.

As we all know, English is the one of important language in this world. If we cannot speak English even a little bit, we are called as a very poor in this community. We also cannot improve our life if we worst in English. We will feel loser if we in the group that use English as a medium to speak. According to the research that have been made by the group of University Malay, 70% of undergraduate student especially Malay student are not use English as a medium to speak. It’s show that most of the student do not want to use English as a main language in their life. People always said that we must use our country language so that it indicate we love our country. The statement is not fault but we also must learn English for our future life such as to find a job, to communicate with foreigner, easy to understand if we find information through online and easy for student to survive in university life because most of the university in Malaysia use English as a medium to speak. One of the reason why we must learn English in our daily life is English is important to get a job. In this era, many people are jobless even though they have a degree. It is because they do not have a soft skill. Even though we got the best result in examination but we cannot speak in English, it is hard for us to find a job. Example is, if we want to work with a giant company such as Petronas, Sime Darby, Schlumberger and etc we need to face many process. One of the process is interview. Interview is one of the important process for us to face if we want to work with a giant company. Many giant company have a francais at the other country. So, they use international language that is English as a medium to communicate among the others. Therefore, they must do an interview in English to find an employee. If we have a soft skill like can speak fluently in English, the company will not hesitate to take us as one of their employee.

Challenges Through Siddhartha’s Path Essay

Siddhartha is a character in which he searches to find the right way of life through many different paths, which I will be relating myself with. With his decisions, he finds a lot of experiences and varies through the way of life of others. Siddhartha’s life as we know it, is very amusing to others, but not as complete as he would want it to be. Siddhartha’s intelligence, pure spirit, and ability to recognize Atman, gives him a sense of security toward the other Brahmins. His friend Govinda, loves Siddhartha’s every move and gesture which he often tends to make. While he decides to follow him, they go together to become Semanas, but then separate to find their own destiny. Siddhartha decides to continue onto his own path and start a new life, but realizes that he is losing not only his best friend but chooses to start a new life. The path of being â€Å"enlightened† and the journey to be one with God is according to how much you desire this quest. Being one with God, can either take your whole life or just a portion, which you think is enough to think and believe you are one with God. I don’t believe he asks for any favors, or requirements to be where you would like to be. To be able to choose is one of the most powerful abilities that a person has. When you choose, you show that you will do what is desired and wanted by yourself. To tell the truth, I don’t think I’ve ever tried to enlighten myself in any way. If I choose to, I think that I would want to meditate and free myself of all stress, anger, impatience, etc. To be able to feel free and pure of all negativeness, would be as if I were one with God because I know that he doesn’t want me or anybody in a world of anger or hatred. To have a world full with peace and harmony would be my Enlightenment, my stage in life where I have achieved to be one with God. During Siddhartha’s exploration, he views and thinks of other people as being unique and dissimilar from his own way of life. As he walks into other cultures, he begins to realize what he must do to be one with his own Self. Although, he thinks that these people know little about what the true meaning of life really is, he also begins to absorb and become one of them.  Throughout his life, he meets a girl named Kamala, which he chooses that she is the one to teach him about love. He also learns an important lesson and allows him to realize that he can’t love Kamala. A dream occurs to Siddhartha, which is a bird in a golden cage dies. This means that his inner voice and all the good inside of him had disappeared, due to the new life he has adopted to and was now living in. He must run away and regain what he has forgotten as a little boy. After running away, Siddhartha has an urge to kill himself, by throwing himself into the river. By changing his ways of life and searching for his own Self through other cultures, made him realize that his life was now going down the wrong path. In the world today, due to the wars and battles that people all around have begun, I have questioned if this world would ever be able to be one with God. I have never once doubted my belief in God. On Sunday morning, church is available to those Catholics who are willing to go into the house of God and pray for those who you have wished to pray for. I never doubted that God wouldn’t be listening when I needed him by my side. He is everybody’s angel, all you have to do is listen to what the Lord tells to you. I don’t believe that by going to church, you have earned the right to go to heaven. I believe that any person that stays at home and prays to our Lord and to the Rosary, has earned that same right as the other people have. We have the right to choose whether or not we are going to be shooting stars or falling leaves. When your at home and you are afraid, or you’re alone with no one to turn to, I have the instinct to say a little prayer to God, so that he is aware how I feel. I don’t think that there is any other feeling, than to go to Confession and tell the priest what sins you have committed, but then still to know that those sins are now forgiven by the Lord our God. He has given us the most beautiful gift, which is life. I just think that sometimes we abuse that gift, and people need to step back and look at what we have caused. God has given us, something in which no one else could, so my beliefs in God grow everyday, and hope for the day when I can feel what my grandmother is feeling with God. Siddhartha is a character which has gone through many paths to find and be at one with his own Self. As he travels through the different cultures and worlds of other Human Beings, he will begin to realize what he must do to get where he would like to be.
